GMS Students,

We have overcome some unimaginable challenges over the past two years. Remote/Virtual Learning was something we all were new to not that long ago. This year we were finally back to the building full time and it was great! Sadly, our Middle School has had some issues with a pipe breaking and flooding parts of our school. This challenge has brought us back to Virtual/Remote Learning. At least this time we can say it is not going to be for too long. We know many of you do not like this type of learning and we completely understand. However, each and every one of you are capable of being successful. You have teachers, counselors and administrators ready to help you out. We overcame this challenge in the past and we can do it again.

In life and especially in our Middle/High School years we will come across many obstacles and it is all about our outlook and taking on the challenge with a positive attitude. You are met with the daily challenges of friend relationships, schoolwork, sports, social media, family and so much more. The obstacles we have in our life do not have to be negative, many times we look at them as being negative. Many times our challenges/obstacles help make us stronger so we should look at them in a more positive light. How can we learn from this experience? An example is sometimes we get into a fight with a friend, eventually maybe we decide to talk it out. Does it mean the friendship is going to be over because you were honest on how you felt about something, no. Many times the friendship becomes stronger. You now have a better understanding of each other, which is important in any relationship. You would become more accepting of each other's differences. That would be a positive outcome of overcoming a friendship challenge.

Even though we are all facing the same challenge of being remote again, we do not have to look at it as a negative obstacle. We can take the positive out of this. Do not forget, teachers, counselors and Administration are all dealing with the same exact challenge as you are maybe not as a student but it is still a challenge for many. Next week, you have one session days. That means you have time from 1-3pm to reach out to your teacher for extra help and get more help than you would if you were in the building for a full day because teachers are only available after school from 2:40-3:05pm. This way you gain more time. You also have extra time to work on make up work and while doing that between 1-3pm you can reach out to the teacher for help if you come across something that you need help with. The positive in this obstacle we are facing is those who need to make up work for Marking Period 3 can do that with plenty of time and the teacher has more availability to assist you longer. We can be sad that we are not in school and that is okay, but we should look at the positives and know this situation we are in is not permanent. We should never take for granted what we have. The fact that we had a nice building to go to school everyday is wonderful and we will have that again. Once we return, don't take being in the building for granted.

If anyone needs anything please reach out to our School Counselors. We are here for you.
