Dear Garfield Middle School Families,
Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! I hope that you had a restful and enjoyable summer.
We are excited to begin a new academic year filled with learning, growth, and success for all our students.
Class of 2028, welcome to the family! We look forward to seeing your academic and personal growth over the next three years.
As we prepare for the start of school, I would like to share some important information and dates with you.
6th Grade & New Student/Parent Orientation
Orientation for incoming 6th grade students and new parent/students to Garfield Middle School will be held on
Tuesday, August 20th, and Wednesday, August 21st at 9:30 AM.
Students only need to attend one of the two sessions.
If you attended our May orientation, please note that the August orientation will be the same.
However, students who have not yet had their picture taken for a school ID will be able to do so during the August orientation.
First Day of School
Our first day of school is Wednesday, September 4, 2025. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:30 AM.
Please note that September 4th and 5th will be one-session days, with dismissal at 1:28 PM.
Breakfast service will begin on September 4th. Students may enter for breakfast starting at 8:05 AM and must have their
student ID to be served. If a student does not have their ID or does not plan to eat breakfast, they will not be permitted to
enter the building early. Students will not be allowed to enter for breakfast after 8:20 AM.
Our full-day schedule begins on Monday, September 8th, with school hours from 8:45 AM to 3:05 PM.
First Day of School: Student IDs, Schedules, and Homeroom Information
On the first day of school, all 6th grade students, as well as any student who is new to the district or recently updated their school photo,
will receive their student ID and schedule in homeroom. If your child has not yet taken their school picture, they will be called down during the
first day to do so…
Parents: Homeroom assignments will be shared with you via the Parent Portal and/or by mail.
You can expect to receive this information by the third week of August.
Lockers and Combination Locks
Lockers and combination locks will be distributed on the first day of school.
We encourage our incoming 6th grade students to practice using combination locks before the school year begins, as this will help ease the transition.
Uniforms
Uniforms are required starting on the first day of school. Please make sure your child is dressed according to our school uniform policy.
6th Grade (Gray). 7th Grade (Navy Blue). 8th Grade (Green). Khaki bottoms.
Cell Phone Policy
Students are not permitted to carry cell phones during school hours.
Please review our full cell phone policy on the school website.
Back-to-School Night
Join us for Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 6:30 PM.
This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn about our academic programs and expectations.
Forms and Acknowledgements
All required forms should be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher by September 17th.
Please also review our school’s discipline policy and point system on the website.
The acknowledgment form signed by both you and your child is due by September 8th.
Middle School Calendar
Our school calendar, with important dates and events, is available and updated monthly on the Garfield Middle School website.
Please check it regularly.
Parent Portal and Contact Information
Be sure to log into the Parent Portal to update your emergency contact information, email addresses, and phone numbers.
Keeping this information current ensures strong communication throughout the year.
Please be reminded that all documentation necessary for school year will be online.
Summer Reading
Please ensure your child completes their summer reading assignment, which helps maintain literacy skills and will be part of our academic focus at the start of the year.
We ask for your continued partnership in helping our students remain productive, responsible, and supported throughout the year.
We are looking forward to a fantastic school year and to welcoming all our students back on September 4th.
Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in our team.
Warm regards,
Richard Rigoglioso
