March 2019- From Mr. Rigoglioso to Parents:
DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF STUDENT CELL PHONE USAGE DURING CLASS, IN HALLWAYS AND THE LUNCH ROOM, GARFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL STRICTLY ENFORCE THE DISTRICT CELL PHONE POLICY. ALL STUDENT PHONES ARE TO BE PUT IN THEIR LOCKER ACCORDING TO DISTRICT POLICY.
IF A STUDENT IS CAUGHT CARRYING THEIR PHONE, THE TEACHER WILL ASK THE STUDENT TO PUT THE PHONE IN THEIR LOCKER. IF THE STUDENT REFUSES, CONSEQUENCES WILL BE GIVEN FROM ADMINISTRATION. THE PHONE MAY BE GIVEN TO ADMINISTRATION WHERE THE STUDENT MAY PICK IT UP AT THE END OF THE DAY. AFTER THE THIRD OFFENSE, PARENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PICK UP THE PHONE FROM ADMINISTRATION.

PLEASE SPEAK WITH YOUR CHILD ABOUT GARFIELD’S DISTRICT CELL PHONE POLICY. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT MR. RIGOGOSO.

Principal Rigoglioso Holiday Message

I have the great pleasure and opportunity to wish all of Garfield Middle School students and families a safe and joyous Christmas and Holiday Season and I do so on behalf of myself, Vice-principals Mrs. Mazzola and Mr. Gray

This past year has presented our school with challenges and rewards as we collectively strive to move Garfield Middle School forward. We all look forward to the new year working with and for our new Garfield School District superintendent Mrs. Sciacca (who was our Garfield Middle School principal last year), and our new Business Administrator Dr. Cusumano.  It will be an exciting year ahead for Garfield with our new administration and new vision, we will get to witnessed substantial progress in our in the Garfield School District.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students and parents for their continued support. Our school is truly a community school with many gifted and talented students and it is at this time of the year when the closeness of friendship shines in our students faces. The new-year will bring new learning experiences, new challenges and new fun. I look forward to what lies ahead for us as a school community in 2019.

So, as we head off in our different direction (or even just stay close to home). I want to wish you all a wonderful Holiday season. Whatever your beliefs or tradition are, I hope that you can spend some quality time with your love ones. The Garfield Middle School students and staff have work very hard right up to the last day and all deserve some time to relax. Before you know it, we will hit the ground running after the break and it will be as if we never left! Have a safe and healthy Christmas and Holiday season. We will see you in 2019.

9/4/18. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 2018-2019:  Welcome to Garfield Middle School. Every year approximately 1000 students from sixth grade through eighth grade begin a new school year. Our goal is to create a learning and social community that is committed to engaging and challenging every student in every classroom every day. Our students, staff and families work together to create an environment where children are intellectually challenged in ways appropriate to their individual strengths, needs, and experiences.

We believe that our parents play a critical role in the success of our students. Parents, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. You know your child better than anyone else and we invite you to work in partnership with your child’s classroom teachers. You have rich insight into your child’s unique needs, talents and interests. Please feel free to share any information that you believe will help us increase your child’s success. Teachers, however, have a unique perspective on your child. They will see your child as a member of the class and watch as they interact with peers, face the challenge of new learning, ask questions, and solve problems. Parent and teacher perspectives, working in partnership, are critical to ensure that your child’s time at Garfield Middle School is exciting and rewarding.

On behalf of everyone at GMS, welcome to another exciting year of learning.  Thank you for your involvement, support, and cooperation. Working together, we are confident that your family will have a positive educational experience at Garfield Middle School.

Sincerely,

Richard "Riggs" Rigoglioso, Principal, Garfield Middle School
