Welcome to Garfield Middle School

Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year

As we prepare for the first day of school, we ask that you please check the Parent Portal for your child’s schedule and visit the Garfield Middle School website for important information and updates. Remember, you must fill out all documents and emergency cards before you can see your child’s schedule.

First Day of School Information:

Breakfast: Breakfast will be served beginning at 8:05 AM. Students may enter the school for breakfast between 8:05 and 8:20 AM. Students must have their IDs to enter for breakfast. There will be a grace period at the start of the year for students who haven’t received or replaced their IDs. Students choosing to have breakfast should enter through the front door.

Homeroom: After breakfast, all students will report directly to their homeroom, where they will receive their ID cards. Students who have forgotten or did not receive their schedules can obtain an additional copy in homeroom. If a student is unsure of their homeroom, they should visit the office for assistance.

Non-Breakfast Students: Students who choose not to enter the school for breakfast will be allowed to enter the building at 8:35 AM and should report directly to homeroom.

Second Day of School: Students will report directly to homeroom.

Third Day of School: Students will follow their regular schedule and report to their first block class.

One-Session Days: Please note that September 4th through September 6th are one-session days. Students will be released from GMS at 1:28 PM on these days.

Transportation: Students who receive transportation will be called down to the buses by our security staff before the end of the day. If you believe your child should receive transportation or have any questions or concerns, please contact the Transportation Department at 973-340-5000, extension 2313 or 2340.

Grade-Level Entrances and Exits:

To help ensure a smooth start to the day, please note the following entrances and exits for each grade:

  • 6th Grade: Enter/exit through the front door.
  • 7th Grade: Enter/exit through Door 2 (side back door left of the main entrance).
  • 8th Grade: Enter/exit through Door 3 (side front door, closest to the parking lot).

Our administration and security staff will be outside to assist any students who need help finding their way.

Welcome to Students:

We are delighted to welcome all our students, especially our new students, to the Garfield Middle School community. Your enthusiasm and dedication will undoubtedly contribute to a positive and productive school environment. We look forward to working together to make this year an outstanding one for all of our students.

Warm regards,

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Parents,

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer. My name is Todd Williams, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Dean of Discipline at Garfield Middle School. It is with great enthusiasm that I join this amazing community!

As the previous Dean of Discipline at Garfield High School, with 26 years of experience in education, I am prepared to take on this important responsibility. My approach is to teach through discipline. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed when provided with the right guidance and support.

To the faculty and staff, I am eager to collaborate with you to maintain the high standards that the Middle School is known for. I am here to support you in any way I can, and I look forward to working together to address any challenges and celebrate our successes.

To the parents and guardians, I understand that the well-being and education of your children are your top priorities. Please know that I share this commitment and am dedicated to working with you to support your child’s development, both academically and personally. Together, we can help our students become successful individuals.

I am excited about the opportunity to get to know each of you and to contribute to the continued success of Garfield Middle School. Thank you for your warm welcome!

Sincerely,
Todd Williams
