September 2019- From Mr. Rigoglioso:
Welcome Garfield Middle School Families! We hope that everyone enjoyed a fun filled and relaxing summer! It is with great pleasure to welcome you back for another great school year. I hope that your summer has been filled with fun family activities while making wonderful memories. Now that summer vacation has concluded, our thoughts turn to preparing for the start of a new school year. This is one of my favorite times of the year! There is nothing better than hearing about the great summer stories and memories our students have developed over their summer vacation. I’m thrilled to be part of a team comprised of teachers, staff, parents and students who want to achieve great things! Our faculty, staff and administration are looking forward to a new school year and we are working hard to see that your child’s learning experience at Garfield Middle school is a successful and a memorable one.
Your support is key to ensuring that we can take full advantage of each student’s educational and personal development. To that end, we encourage a positive home-school relationship based on the mutual goal of providing the best learning experience possible for all our students. Our talented faculty brings a diverse set of approaches to instruction in order to address a variety of student learning styles. You will have the opportunity to meet the faculty at our Back-To-School on September 25 at 6:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, and begin to form a relationship with the classroom teacher.
We look forward to a very positive and productive year together! We extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible. We value your involvement and support in your child’s education! Your active participation is key to the success of your your child’s middle school years.
We encourage you to contact us if/when the need arises, and to “stay in the know” about your child’s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings.
Again, we welcome you to Garfield Middle School and to our wonderful learning community. Our school is a place alive with energy, enthusiasm, and a high standard of excellence! It is, indeed, a place where opportunities are there for the taking. Here’s to an AWESOME new school year as we work together to make our school a great place to work and learn each day!

9/4/18. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE 2018-2019: Welcome to Garfield Middle School. Every year approximately 1000 students from sixth grade through eighth grade begin a new school year. Our goal is to create a learning and social community that is committed to engaging and challenging every student in every classroom every day. Our students, staff and families work together to create an environment where children are intellectually challenged in ways appropriate to their individual strengths, needs, and experiences.
We believe that our parents play a critical role in the success of our students. Parents, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. You know your child better than anyone else and we invite you to work in partnership with your child’s classroom teachers. You have rich insight into your child’s unique needs, talents and interests. Please feel free to share any information that you believe will help us increase your child’s success. Teachers, however, have a unique perspective on your child. They will see your child as a member of the class and watch as they interact with peers, face the challenge of new learning, ask questions, and solve problems. Parent and teacher perspectives, working in partnership, are critical to ensure that your child’s time at Garfield Middle School is exciting and rewarding.
On behalf of everyone at GMS, welcome to another exciting year of learning. Thank you for your involvement, support, and cooperation. Working together, we are confident that your family will have a positive educational experience at Garfield Middle School.
Sincerely,
Richard "Riggs" Rigoglioso, Principal, Garfield Middle School
