GMS Clubs

Check out the Garfield Middle School's extra curricular activities! We take pride in our clubs and welcome participation.

Art Club

Ms. LaMotta

The Art Club is an after school activity that provides materials, instruction and support for those students who are seeking a creative outlet in addition to their academic schedule. Students will get to explore mediums such as ceramics, painting, drawing and mixed media. Art club meets on floating dates and hosts our "Paint With Me" event that is open to  all  students and  their families to share a creative experience together.

Blue Star Club

This club supports students with a mom, dad, brother or sister serving our country in any branch of the military.

Bookworms, Book Club
Ms. Reid 
Meetings: Twice a month 
The goal of the book club is to promote the love of reading and to provide opportunities for enrichment activities in quality literature beyond the classroom. Participating students will meet on the designated date/time to discuss the selected books and to share their enthusiasm for reading with their peers.

Chess Club

Meetings: Wednesdays 3:05-4:00pm
This club is open to all grades and beginners are welcome!  This fun and exciting club will inspire students to challenge each other and acquire great technique and strategies.  Lessons are also available to our newcomers.

Chorus After School 

Miss Francica

Meetings:  Rehearsal times will run from 3:00pm to 4:00pm twice a month.  Dates for these practices will be posted outside the Chorus Room, on Miss Francica’s webpage, and students will also receive a reminder email. This club  is for students who would like to continue Chorus in their second semester.  Scheduled performances will include the Spring Concert and Graduation.

Crafting Club
Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Festa run the crafting club. 
Meetings: We meet 2 Wednesdays a month.
The Crafting Club meets and creates different craft at each meeting. We have about 80 members and growing!

Dance Club

Meetings: Beginning in February we will meet on Wednesdays on the stage.
We will work on choreography to be performed for Teen Arts Festival and GMS Spring Concert. 
Bring your dance clothes and be ready to work from 3:15-4:00. 


Garden Club 
Ms. Stasiak, Ms. Traupmann, Ms. Kaur, Ms. Gaboury, Ms. Pielko, and Ms. Kemp.
Meetings: Mondays after school until 4pm.

School gardens engages students by providing a dynamic environment to observe, discover, experiment, nurture and learn.  Students are encouraged to become active participants in the learning process.  Our magical school gardens have been shown to increase self-esteem,  help students develop a sense of ownership, responsibility and promote healthy lifestyle choices.

Guitar Club

Meetings: January all the way through to the end of the school year.

Nine years running strong!  This is an entry level club as most of the students, if not all, rarely come in with any prior experience. We have some instruments to utilize, however we encouraged but, not mandate, that a student has their own for practicing purposes.

NJHS

Meetings:  We meet at least once a month---maybe more depending  what projects or trips we have planned. This is a club where induction is based on academic achievement.  Upon reviewing grades, state test scores and teacher recommendations, students are invited to be a part of the NJHS. 

 

PBJ (People Bringing Joy)

Meetings: Twice a month
The Mission pf PBJ is to help our students give back to the community by taking on challenges that will benefit people who need a little more joy in their everyday lives!

Peer to Peer

Meetings: Mondays

This is a terrific club for any middle school students! Four years and going strong. We discuss important topics of what is going on globally, locally, and/or personally. We talk about topics ranging from depression, friendship, racism, sexism, or positive attitudes to conspiracy theories, aliens, movies, and politics. 

Polish Club

Ms. Kutarnia, Mrs. Gaboury, Ms. Olszowy

Meetings: Once a month

The Polish Club is for any student interested in learning about the Polish culture.  Students come together to celebrate and to learn about Polish heritage.  Our group participates in service projects, in the Pulaski Parade, and overnight trips.  All students are welcome to join. 

Retro Gaming Club

Meetings: Wednesdays after school 

This club meets after school to learn about some of the older video games that people my have forgotten about. We discuss the history of the gaming industry dating back to 1980s. 

STEM & Robotics Club

Meetings: Every Wednesday
Provides opportunities for students to engage in science, technology, engineering and math in a fun after-school environment.  During the course of a school year, the students will enter 3 local competitions: Robotics, Bridge Design, and an Innovation Fair.

Student Council

Meetings: Bi-weeklyThe Garfield Middle School Student Council has five goals. To develop and promote LEADERSHIP abilities. DIVERSITY-build awareness, respect and value for all people. Strive for academic excellence through ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. Create a partnership between the school and community by carrying out SERVICE PROJECTS. Organize activities to promote participation, and SCHOOL SPIRIT at Garfield Middle School. PURPOSE: TO DEVELOP LEADERS IN THE COMMUNITY!

Yearbook Committee

Meetings: Vary based on events going on in the building.
The main purpose of the yearbook committee is to create the Garfield Middle School yearbook. Members learn how to use a DSLR to photograph events taking place in the school. They are often seen behind the camera and are admired by many.
